Tamika Catchings, a two time Olympic gold medalist, is not only known as a prolific scorer for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever but also as a leader in the community. Catchings is a leader in the Indianapolis community on and off the court. She spends her free time working with the Catch the Stars Foundation that she started to help underprivileged youth achieve their dreams.
Recently my parents had the chance to hear Tamika talk about leadership and were very impressed with the lessons she had to share. Over email, Tamika shared the following philosophy with the Leadership Study blog:
- Believe in your team
- Open to change and Obvious about what it is you need from your team
- Lead by example
- Dare to be remarkable
While Catchings’ professional career has been as an athlete, this strategy is applicable to any leader in any organization. By being BOLD, a leader empowers their team through their own example and drives everyone towards a common goal. This is really a great strategy for leadership once your team has a common goal, it will help you be your best as a leader and it will help you get the best from your followers.
